Monitoring of a distribution center of the Cortefiel group
The Cortefiel Group brings together some of the world’s leading textile brands. It is present in 79 countries, with 2095 outlets. It´s best-known brands are: Cortefiel, Pedro del Hierro, Springfield, Women’s Secret and Fifty Factory.
On this occasion, Cortefiel needed an “Operational Energy Efficiency” solution to improve the electrical cost of its logistics facilities. As the company has a storage area of 123,000 m2, one of the main requirements was to have a scalable solution that could be gradually deployed and expanded if necessary.
Data of the Cortefiel Group 2016

Grupo Cortefiel, Spanish fashion distribution company.
- Sells 85 million garments a year
- 2,095 stores
- 11,400 employees
- 1,095 million € turnover
- 123,000 m2 of storage area in three logistics centres (Aranjuez, Hong-Kong and Mexico)
- Brands: Cortefiel, Pedro del Hierro, Springfield, Women’s Secret and Fifty Factory
“Operational Energy Efficiency.” Internal project of the company with the aim of optimizing the electrical cost using continuous improvement methods. The initial objective was to measure in order to make operational decisions and thus improve.
- The 7 most relevant electrical circuits
- Indoor temperature
- Outdoor temperature
- Indoor humidity
- Brightness in the interior
- Datalogger DL171 with 3 internal electrical measurements
- SenNet meter (x4)
- SenNet THL-I (x1)
- Outside temperature probe
January 2016, first phase of the project
January 2017, Extension of the monitoring system
Cortefiel wanted to measure the energy consumption of its distribution centers in order to apply continuous improvement methods.
The company’s idea was to carry out an initial model of a monitoring system for one of its centres in Aranjuez (Madrid), and then progressively expand it as its effectiveness was proven.
The project had two main obstacles, on the one hand, since the company wanted to implement the system gradually, it had to be a scalar system, which could be gradually expanded. In addition, given the considerable size of the logistics centre where the pilot project was installed, a solution was needed to ensure communications throughout the facility.
Cortefiel contacted Satel IBERIA in search of a scalable solution capable of covering the long distances of a logistics centre without the need to lay cable.
Satel IBERIA proposed to start with a datalogger with three internal electrical measurements, in order to monitor the three most relevant circuits of the installation and then expand the system with more external meters, of the SenNet meter type.
In addition, to monitor temperature, humidity and lighting, Satel IBERIA proposed using wireless probes with radio communication.
Finally, Cortefiel decided to develop its own software for energy management, adapted to their needs. In this way, the company can calculate its own ratios (electricity cost per garment, per m2, per employee…) while ensuring the privacy of this data.
Satel Iberia’s dataloggers are perfectly adapted to the needs of large companies, thanks to their scalability, their wide range of communications – which minimises installation time and wiring requirements – and their compatibility with third-party software, so that users can decide on the level of privacy of their data.
Thanks to the monitoring system, Cortefiel has a scalable solution that can be integrated with its own software. In addition, the company receives updated and real-time information on its consumption, so it can make decisions on the spot.
With the data obtained, the company has managed to increase the participation and motivation of the operating environment in terms of energy efficiency.
It has a scalable system for each area of the centre.
The electricity consumption in the production process has become visible, allowing knowledge-based decisions to be made.
Savings have been achieved beyond Cortefiel’s initial expectations.
